It's a lovely, well maintained trail that connects to the Walkway over the Hudson and the Hudson Valley Rail Trail. Recommended option. My favorites are the Wilton Trails, you enter and your engulfed in nature. My only critique is that the trail does not connect at the Brewster (east) end with any of the Westchester county trails. This week was riding and notice two women picking up trash. Started in Niverville and headed south to Valatie, then back north to North Chatham and back to Niverville. We started in Hopewell Junction and ended at a park right outside of Brewster. Our inaugural ride on the Maybrook trailway today. Also paved a few hundred yards south and east toward Danbury. Ive completed the Wilton trails in Lovers Lane, Entrance near Orems Dinner and Mathews Park. Just stay straight and in about 15 minutes you'll see a huge fire tower (hard to miss). I also love walking In Mathews park although that is more of a city trail to me not as much nature as these are concrete paved and you pass near traffic and such. Across from the depot, visitors will also find a replica switching tower. Most oddly, I had noted on the south side the new grade was offset from the grade on the north side. Walked this trail on 10/22/2022 and while it is a nice bike able trail, there are a few problems. Although Im guessing, I think that, where the bike path dies in Brewster, New York, a continuation of the paved bike path will spring up in the next three years because theres a way to do it, and the way looks clear. I did it round trip and it is one of the best maintained trails I have been on Again thank you Mr Steinhaus. there is quite a bit more than a "few miles" between the 2 open sections as of July 2010 - there is actualy 7.9 miles of undeveloped ROW between the 2 sections - the phase 2 section here in Poughkeepsie is "classier" that the section to the south - the phase 2 section has a paved parking lot at Overovker Rd. One of the things I really liked is the lack of level crossings making this more of a bikers trail than a walking trail with a lot of trail where you will only see bikes for a few miles. Thanks ! The trail from end to end (18 miles) is perfectly paved with numerous bridges and parking access points scattered about all in pristine condition. When you are of a certain age this becomes more important to you :-) We did the William R. Steinhaus Dutchess Rail Trail, Walk Over the Hudson, and Hudson Valley Rail Trail the previous day, making for a nice mini-vacation. wow! At Hopewell Junction, it provides a seamless link to the William R. Steinhaus Dutchess Rail Trail,and onward to the Walkway over the Hudson State Parkand the Hudson Valley Rail Trail in Ulster County.
